This is the scene that greeted me as I opened the front door at sunrise to get the morning paper—note the golden light kissing the snow in the foreground before giving way to the blue daylight.

After the heaviest snowfall for quite some time, we had very little to shovel, thanks to some very nice neighbours who helped us out without us asking (we couldn’t get the snow blower started)—one did the main section of sidewalk, one did the driveway and got the snow blower started for us, and a third did some finishing touches after the snow plough went by and plugged up the bottom of our driveway. Pays to have a nice, likable wife.
